Responsibilities
The departments’ activities revolve around being a catalyst for regional integration using Telecommunications and Information Technology.
- Initiate and coordinate the elaboration and adoption of Community legislations aimed at changing the legal, economic and security frameworks in which telecommunications, ICT and postal activities are performed in the Community.
- Develop, promote, implement and monitor regional policies on telecommunications, ICT and postal services in harmony with the needs of Member States taking into account, wherever practicable, action plans and future directions as defined by International Organisations involved in the sectors.
- Promote an enabling environment for investment in infrastructure.
- Provide the necessary support to Member States to facilitate the effective introduction of a common regional telecommunications, ICT and postal market.
- Facilitate the establishment of the ECOWAS Radio/Television.
- Serve as a catalyst in all sectors of integration.
- Promote capacity building and training programmes on telecommunications, ICT and postal services.
- Develop, promote and harmonise programmes, projects and applications on telecommunications, ICT and postal services.
