Participating in Ghana National cybersecurity week
The ECOWAS Commissioner for Telecoms and IT, Dr. Isaias Barreto da Rosa, is currently participating in Ghana National cybersecurity week, which is taking place from 23rd to 27th of October in Accra.
The event was opened yesterday by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, president of the Republic of Ghana. During his opening speech H.E. president Akufo-Addo, reiterated the strong commitment of his government to promoting cybersecurity and in fighting cybercrime in the country. A number of initiatives are being implemented in Ghana to tackle these issues.
In his remarks during the opening ceremony, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Telecoms and IT revealed the key initiatives currently under implementation by the ECOWAS Commission in these two important areas. According to Dr. Barreto da Rosa, without a safe cyber environment within the subregion, it will not be possible to establish the envisaged digital single market in West Africa.
Other dignitaries also intervened during the opening formalities of Ghana cybersecurity week, including the Ghanaian Minister of Communications, Honorable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, as well as the US Ambassador to Ghana, the representatives of the UN system and the representative of the Council of Europe.
Today, October 24th, 2017, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Telecoms and IT had the opportunity of presenting the current cybersecurity situation in West Africa and the legal framework for fighting cybercrimes in the subregion.
